What if I have never surfed before?
If you’re never surfed before you will be in great hands with us. Newbie Surfers is what we specialize in!
Do you do a last-minute lesson?
Yes, For Sure, Absolutely! As long as there’s an instructor available, we could book you a surf lesson about an hour or less from the time you call.
What do I need to bring to my surf lesson?
All you need is Sunscreens, Towels, Water, Cash for parking, Swimsuits! That’s pretty much it, oh yah…and of course a desire or curiosity to learn one of the most exciting sports on the planet!
Do I need to know how to swim?
Yes, you would need to know how to swim. Although you are usually able to stand most of time, we do require you know how to swim first.
Are your instructors CPR certified?
Yes, we have instructors on staff that are CPR certified, EMT’s, Fire academy trained as well as Trained Lifeguards. You are in great hands when you learn to surf with Newport Beach Surfing Lessons.
What’s the best time to surf?
MORNINGS. Always. And during summer, the earlier the better – that way you beat the crowd, the wind, and get the best parking too. And if you mean time of year – Late summer into fall – August to November, hands down. (The worst is spring, FYI).
Do you offer any discounts?
Yes, we can offer a small discount – typically $20 off – for cash paid at the beach, but you still need to signup and pay your deposit to schedule your lesson in advance (NOTE: We do not discount our 11 am uh, … discounted … lesson, ha! ) BETTER YET: Get one of our discounted lesson packages here. They can be used any time, no expiration!
Can you drop and/or pick up equipment?
Yes. We will drop off and pick up equipment anywhere in Newport and Huntington Beach for $50.
What if the weather is bad?
If the weather is bad and we have to cancel your surf lesson (that’s rare), you will get a full refund if you have already paid. All cancellations on your part though must be made at least 48 hours in advance. Since you’re already going to get wet, we will sometimes still hold lessons unless it’s torrential rain or hurricane winds. Then…we’d rather not be out in the water either. 🙂
What’s included in my surf lesson?
All lessons include surfboards, wetsuits, great instructors, and all the sand you can eat : ) Lessons start with a wetsuit fitting at our shop, a walk to the water and a short ‘beach demo’ to go over some new skills & safety practices. It’s good to be 15 minutes early to get your waiver signed and wetsuit on.
Whats your cancellation policy?
48 in advance and an additional $59 rescheduling fee for no shows.
What’s NOT included in my surf lesson?
Parking: Parking at Huntington State Beach is $15, or $20 on the weekend, for the whole day. If you’re coming often, get a beach pass here. OR, ride a bike – bikes get in free. And remember to bring a towel, sunscreen and a ‘cowabunga’ spirit!
